Inspired by reactions to Eve Ensler’s famous Vagina Monologues, V-Day was established on Valentine’s Day 2008, not as a mere day but a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money, and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sex slavery.
V-Day and related campaigns are discussed by Ensler and friend and fellow activist bell hooks in the feature article “Strike! Dance! Rise!,” found in our new, March 2014 magazine.
