His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be welcomed by the California State Legislature today for a special address in his first visit to Sacramento.
According to The Sacramento Bee, His Holiness is expected to discuss “compassion, the environment, and ethical leadership” in his address before members of the state Senate and Assembly. The Legislature has not held a joint session with a foreign dignitary since 2014.
The address will take place today at 1 p.m. Pacific time, and can be streamed at The California Channel.
His Holiness’ visit to Sacramento comes as part of a public tour of the United States. During a visit to Washington, D.C. last week, His Holiness addressed the mass shooting in Orlando, Fla. that left 49 people dead. He discussed the importance of forgiveness and religious harmony and led those in attendance at the U.S. Institute of Peace in a minute of silent prayer, which can be watched below.
