Gavin Kilty, a full-time translator for the Institute of Tibetan Classics since 2001, won first place in the Shantarakshita Award for Excellence in Translation at this year’s Tsadra Translation and Transmission conference, which took place in Boulder, Colorado, from May 31-June 3. The honor was given in recognition of Kilty’s work on Tsonghkapa’s A Lamp to Illuminate the Five Stages: Teachings on Guhyasamāja Tantra.
The book is part of the Library of Tibetan Classics series, which is edited by Institute of Tibetan Classics president Thupten Jinpa and published by Wisdom Publications.
Also among the awardees were Wulstan Fletcher and Helena Blankleder of the Padmakara Translation Group. In a video posted by Shambhala Publications, Fletcher and Blankweder discuss their process in translating Shantideva’s The Way of the Bodhisattva.
Also awarded was Bryan Cuevas for Ra Yeshe Senge’s The All-Pervading Melodious Drumbeat, published by Penguin Classics.
