Yoga helps me manage my stress so, though I wince every time I get the bill for my classes, I always cough up. Sadly, however, the people who live with the most extreme levels of stress are often the people who can’t afford classes at all. In response to this problem, former software engineer, Mark Lilly, founded Street Yoga in 2002 and now the Portland, Oregon-based organization offers free yoga, meditation, and wellness classes to homeless youth and to youth at risk of being homeless. Street Yoga also offers two-and-a-half day trainings for volunteer teachers of this special-needs group.
