The two claimants to the title of “Karmapa” have released a joint statement seeking to heal a decades-long rift in their community.
“I have actually myself been quite downcast and depressed,” the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje said in a recent address.

The Karma Kagyu Association of Canada is now hosting information about a tour of Canada, his first, being undertaken by His Holiness the 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje.

The two met in Varansi, India, as part of Freeman’s work on National Geographic’s forthcoming 2016 series on the divine, “The Story of God.”
Outside of monastic rules, there are no specific Buddhist dietary restrictions. But Buddhism does place a strong emphasis on reducing suffering.
