Though closed for the season, the people of San Francisco Zen Center and its Tassajara Zen Mountain Center in Carmel, California are busy — contending with complications caused by wildfires that have been ravaging the Tassajara area, and keeping friends and followers updated about related developments.
Updates as of yesterday and this morning tell us that “Everyone at Tassajara is safe,” and that “Tassajara is not threatened by the fire East of Jamesburg. Our buildings at Jamesburg are also safe.”
A web-page dedicated to fire-related updates has been created here; or, you can follow Tassajara on Facebook.
Wildfire Today reports that “the fire has burned 1,086 acres. They are calling it 30 percent contained. The report on structures was “10 residences damaged or destroyed, numerous outbuildings.” This video shared by the site “starts off with a retardant drop by a P2V air tanker, but be sure to watch what happens at 3:30, which illustrates a common mechanism of injury for many wildland firefighters.”
