We’re thinking especially fondly today of singer/songwriter/multifaceted musician Joni Mitchell today, having gotten the word that she was hospitalized last night after being found unconscious in her home. Thankfully there’s already positive news, via JoniMitchell.com: “She regained consciousness on the ambulance ride…. She is currently in intensive care undergoing tests and is awake and in good spirits.”
There’s meaningful connection, too, between Joni and the Shambhala Sun’s founder, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. In an interview with Reader’s Digest, Mitchell credited Trungpa for snapping her out of cocaine addiction. You can read excerpts of that interview — and see Mitchell’s own painted portrait of Trungpa — here. There, Mitchell talks more about him — “I consider him one of my great teachers, even though I saw him only three times” — and writing “Refuge of the Roads,” a musical tribute to him. Listen to it above.
