Col. Douglas Fleischfresser places the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team unit patch on First Lt. Christopher Mohr
On July 10, the Wisconsin National Guard inducted First Lieutenant Christopher Mohr as its first-ever Buddhist chaplain.
According to a dispatch from the WNG’s Public Affairs Office, Lt. Mohr will serve the Guard’s 32nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion by providing “morale, morals and ethics support to the soldiers.”
The Wisconsin State Command Chaplain, Col. Douglas Fleischfresser, said that there were about 30 self-identified Buddhists in the Wisconsin National Guard. Mohr will offer them, and other soldiers who have expressed interest, nightly meditation training, as well as a full Buddhist service weekly.
“‘[Buddhist teachings] have been very useful to me in making sure that I can be a person who is of benefit to others and a person who can work with others to make sure that everybody’s needs, as best I can, be met,’ said Mohr.”
