Insight LA celebrates three “generations” of women in Buddhism, in dharma with their first teacher authorization ceremony.

Sharon Salzberg, Beth Sternlieb, Christiane Wolf and Trudy Goodman at the InsightLA ceremony.
From Trudy Goodman, founder and executive director of InsightLA comes this lovely report: “Our dharma family here celebrated a historic occasion this weekend: the first teacher authorization ceremony at InsightLA. But what made it historic, in a larger sense, is that Sharon Salzberg, one of my teachers long ago, was there — and that the two teachers I’ve empowered are both women. So it was three “generations” of women in Buddhism, in dharma.”
The two teachers in question are Beth Sternlieb — a longtime Iyengar yoga teacher who is now a meditation teacher at InsightLA and Christiane Wolf, head of InsightLA’s Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction program. (You can learn more about them both on InsightLA’s “Teachers” page.)
About the ceremony itself, Goodman says:
“I made a sweet simple ritual where Sharon lit a candle from the big mother-Buddha candle, then I lit my candle from Sharon’s, then Christiane and Beth lit theirs from mine. Even though there are other teachers who I’ll train, men and women, something in my life feels complete now.”
Our congratulations to Christiane and Beth, and the entire Insight LA community.
