Cheryl A. Giles

Cheryl A. Giles is the Francis Greenwood Peabody Senior Lecturer on Pastoral Care and Counseling at Harvard Divinity School and a licensed clinical psychologist. She joined the faculty in 1997 and teaches courses in spiritual care and counseling, trauma-informed care, and contemplative care of the dying. Dr. Giles is a core faculty member of the Buddhist Ministry Initiative and mentors students preparing for chaplaincy, psychology, and public leadership. She co-edited “The Arts of Contemplative Care: Pioneering Voices in Buddhist Chaplaincy and Pastoral Work” with Lama Willa Baker in 2010. Her most recent book “Black and Buddhist: What Buddhism Can Teach Us About Race, Resilience, Transformation, and Freedom” was co-edited with Pamela Ayo Yetunde in 2020 and won the Gold Nautilus Award.
