Other Ways to Donate

If you prefer to donate by check in Canadian dollars, please include your email address (for tax receipts), and make your check payable to:

Lion’s Roar Foundation

2403 Clifton Street
Halifax, NS B3K 4T9
Canada

There can be significant tax advantages to donating appreciated securities (shares, mutual funds, etc) directly to the Lion’s Roar Foundation rather than selling the securities and donating the proceeds. By donating the securities directly, you may be able to increase your donation to Lion’s Roar and get a larger tax deduction. Please consult with your financial or tax advisor to understand your specific situation.

Three Easy Steps to Donate Securities
  1. Complete the Lion’s Roar securities donation form. Download the form HERE.
  2. Send the form to your financial advisor and to Lion’s Roar.
  3. Email our Development & Partnership Manager, Bakes Mitchell, or call him at (902) 431-8132 to let us know you intend to donate securities.

* You can complete and sign this form best with Adobe Reader. You can download Adobe Reader for free HERE.

The benefits of a gift of appreciated assets, such as shares or securities, are threefold:

  1. Receive a larger tax deduction for the asset’s full market value at the time of donating.
  2. Avoid paying a capital gains tax you would otherwise incur from the sale.
  3. Ensure that more of your gift reaches Lion’s Roar.

When you consider your legacy, consider a gift to the Lion’s Roar Foundation. A planned gift to Lion’s Roar is a powerful statement about your values and aspirations, and extends your generosity across generations. It will help ensure that Lion’s Roar can continue to bring Buddhist teachings on wisdom, compassion, mindfulness and meditation to people all over the world far into the future.

Planned gifts can also offer significant tax benefits to you and your family, and can help you meet your financial and philanthropic goals. The most common types of planned gifts are bequests through a will or Living Trust but retirement plan assets, real estate, and life income gifts are other ways to leave a legacy gift to Lion’s Roar. Talk to your legal and financial advisors to determine what’s best for you, your loved ones and your estate.

If you have already included Lion’s Roar Foundation in your estate plan, we are grateful. Please let us know about your intentions by completing this Statement of Intent to Provide Future Support.

By sharing your plans with us, you’ll help Lion’s Roar in our long-range planning efforts. Of course, informing us of your philanthropic intentions doesn’t obligate you or your heirs to fulfill them — you’ll continue to have the flexibility to adjust your plans as needed.

Lion’s Roar Foundation does not provide legal or tax advice. We recommend that you seek your own legal and tax advice in connection with gift and planning matters.

“Jeff Bridges uses a phrase that I can identify with. He says he is ‘Buddhistly bent.’ I am reading, I am meditating. I am a Buddhist infant now 73 years old. Lion’s Roar magazine is an important part of my life now and I wish I had the means to afford a larger donation. Peace.”
— Randy B from OR, United States
