If you are a self-identified Buddhist in the U.S. or Canada who’s employed, volunteering, or training as a chaplain — in healthcare, higher education, prisons, the military, or elsewhere—you’re invited to take part in an important new research project. The survey, developed by researchers from Harvard Divinity School in collaboration with scholars from University of the West, the Institute of Buddhist Studies, Naropa University, and Rochester Institute of Technology, takes just 15 minutes to complete and can be submitted anonymously. Take the survey here.
This is the first step in a broader effort to map the scope and needs of Buddhist chaplaincy in North America. The survey asks about your education, training, work setting, and any obstacles you may be facing, and will help build a more complete picture of who is doing this important work — and what support they might need to continue doing it. Whether you’re just starting your chaplaincy journey or have been serving for years, we hope you’ll take a few minutes to participate and share the link with others in your community. Your voice matters! You may also be interested in the results of follow-up research from the previous phase of this project, available in a free e-book here.
