Close to a year after suffering a heart attack, Hozan Alan Senauke — dharma teacher, musician, author, and abbot of California’s Berkeley Zen Center — has entered hospice care. On a December 4 entry on Senauke’s CaringBridge site, his wife Laurie wrote that “Alan had a downhill slide over the weekend – with fever and confusion – probably an infection, which is somewhat better now, though he remains weak and less communicative. This triggered a decision to engage hospice services. It’s comforting to have nurses putting eyes on him in person.”
Laurie also reshared “a link to a video of Alan singing Our Hero at Upaya Zen Center several years ago. This surfaced again for me when I shared it with one of our nurses. Hozan Alan in his element…”
Laurie Senauke added that “This is all we know right now. We are not holding information back. When we know more, we will tell you. And for now, let us all ‘practice like our head is on fire.’ This moment will not come again.”
When more information is available we will share it here. We also encourage you to visit Alan Senauke’s CaringBridge page.
